Irodori Girls' All-Grade School

"All flowers, all different, shall bloom."

Introduction

Irodori Girls' All-Grade School (彩り女子校全学年制, irodori joshi-kō zengaku nensei) is a private all-female school in Tokyo that the main character of Prince of Tennis: Girls' Side, Ichigo Mejiro, attends with her team. Irodori is known for its traditional and cultural activities rather than for sports. Until the current year, the school had never been able to go beyond the District tournament.Irodori is an all-female school that covers from elementary, middle to high school. It is located within the Kantou region, Tokyo prefecture since 1955. The current headmaster is Ibara Hanamura. Including all the grades, the school roughly has around 1320 students.

History

Since Irodori was built, it had never been known for its sports. Rather, sports club are recreational at best while the other competitive clubs are shogi and chess. Even so, Irodori mostly focused on traditions such as wagashi, traditional music, shogi and tea ceremony services. As such, Irodori girls generally have reputation being 'angels' especially with a aesthetically pleasing facilities. As such, the amount of monetary support that goes into the sports club are minimum and includes what is necessary. For example, Irodori only has 2 outdoor courts with one place for wall practice. The tennis courts are usually near the cherry blossom trees, which Irodori is famous for, so there would be petals or leaves on the courts depending on the season. The tennis club is deemed to be cursed within the school because whenever the team tries, bad things like accidents, injuries or devastating losses. Despite that, nothing goes wrong when they do not compete. Other captains in the past have tried to go against that superstition but it kept happening. When Ichigo and the other 3rd Years were still in their first year at the school and club, their captain at the time was Kohaku Morisaki (now No. 6 of the U17). Due to Kohaku's chronically weaker legs, Irodori's tennis footwork becomes lighter and softer but no less efficient. However, at the time, it was less noticeable due to the lack of sports reputation the school has. They won the first game with one of the schools but, before their second game with another school, Kohaku's legs flared up and had to forfeit her match. Additionally, Irodori lost again. At the end of second year, Ichigo, Meisa and Kikue became candidates for captaincy after the intraschool tournament. Instead of pitting them against each other, however, the members voted instead and Ichigo won with the highest vote. This is because the club doesn't expect to be competitive, and Ichigo promotes the fun of tennis more than the others.

However, the first day Ichigo announced she desired Irodori to win Nationals that year. With the history of the club, instead of motivating the others, more than half of the members left out of fear of more misfortune. Unfortunately, they only have a few more weeks until the Tokyo District Preliminaries. Ichigo and the others managed to get Ginko and Keiko into the club which was lucky. Before the District, they did an exhibition match against the high school dvision and lost. However, they managed to become 2nd in the District despite losing to Seigaku's girls division. In fact, Irodori never ended up as No. 1 in the Tokyo and Tournament but they managed to keep advancing nonetheless. During their first round of Nationals, Ichigo fell ill just before and recovery days bled into the first day. As such, Meisa ended up playing D2 and S1. Fortunately, Ichigo managed to rejoin them. In the end, they won the Nationals and more people wanted to join. When the U17 invitations were sent out, the four invited girls were Ichigo, Meisa, Mayoi and Kikue. Ichigo and Meisa accepted the invitation. As for Mayoi and Kikue, the both of them were also invited to the IMG Academy at the same time and accepted that invitation instead of the U17. As such, Noa, Keiki and Ginko stayed at the club and help manage it with the increased numbers of members.
